The Buckley Practice

Treatments

The Buckley Practice offers a wide variety of treatments and you can expect to be given a full range of options from which you can choose the most appropriate for you, with our help and guidance..

We believe strongly in prevention and helping you to develop a good home care routine to avoid dental problems so we encourage regular reviews to make sure that you maintain a healthy mouth and keep on track.

An initial consultation for new patients starts at just £40; at that appointment we can discuss your dental health and requirements and suggest some steps to benefit your smile and your oral health.

Dental Examination

We pride ourselves on providing a very thorough and comprehensive examination. Your dental examination will involve detailed checking of the health of your teeth, and gums; it may also be necessary to take x-rays. Once all the relevant information has been gathered your dentist will be able to advise you what condition your mouth is in and help you to choose what treatments are appropriate either to maintain or to improve your oral health.

Hygiene Care

The cornerstone of our efforts to provide a preventive approach to your oral health and wellbeing. Our hygiene team will not only clean and polish your teeth and ensure that your gums are in optimal health but they can also help ensure that you enhance and keep your smile for life.

Whitening

This is an excellent way to look better and feel more confident with your smile. We offer a choice of home tooth whitening treatment or an in-surgery option; both are supervised by us to ensure that the whitening is carried out appropriately and safely.

Fillings

There are two types of filling available – amalgam fillings and tooth coloured fillings. The tooth coloured fillings are glued or ‘bonded’ to the teeth and are mercury free. They usually take longer to place but result in a more pleasing appearance. The options will be discussed with you by the dentist following your examination.

Fissure Sealants

This is a tough plastic protective coating applied to the biting surface of your teeth. It is used to protect the crevices/fissures of the teeth (which are most vulnerable to decay). This is a very straightforward procedure and a powerful treatment in the prevention of decay

Inlays, Onlays and Crowns

Where teeth are damaged, discoloured or heavily filled they may need to be built-up or strengthened to improve both their function and appearance. Inlays and Onlays are very accurately produced laboratory made fillings, which are much stronger, better looking and more durable than conventional fillings.

A crown is a laboratory made covering, which covers and protects the entire tooth. As with fillings, there are a range of processes and materials for inlay, onlays and crowns to suit both your dental need and budget.

Bridges

A bridge is used to replace a missing tooth or teeth or to hide a space between teeth. Bridges are not usually removable by the patient and often provide a welcome alternative to a denture or a gap.

Bridges can enhance appearance, improve the function of the teeth and may improve speech, especially if the patient has been struggling with a denture.

They are custom made in a dental laboratory and held in place permanently usually by an adjacent tooth, teeth or implants.

Veneers

A veneer is a thin facing, which is placed on the front surface of a tooth. Veneers can greatly improve the appearance of your teeth and smile. They are used to hide discoloured, stained or damaged teeth and can close spaces between teeth. Veneers can also be used to realign poorly positioned teeth.

Root Canal

When the nerve inside a tooth is damaged or infected (through deep decay, a crack or trauma), the tooth itself may still be saved by root canal treatment rather than extraction. The tooth may be sensitive or tender but in some cases there is no discomfort and the damage is only seen on a radiograph (x-ray) or as a blister on the gum (gumboil).

Dentures

A denture is used to replace a missing tooth or teeth and is normally removable by the patient. The production of a denture involves several stages of carefully planned record taking and construction between dentist, dental technician and patient. The body of a denture (denture base) is made either from metal or acrylic (plastic) with the tooth itself being made of acrylic. A denture may replace a single missing tooth, several teeth or all the teeth in one jaw.

Orthodontic Care

Orthodontics is a specialist branch of dentistry, which straightens teeth into their ideal positions, to improve function and create a healthy and attractive smile. Orthodontics is not just for children; increasingly more adults are choosing to have treatment carried out.

We provide orthodontic care in a state-of-the-art dental surgery with the latest diagnostic equipment. Treatment is carried out by our consultant orthodontist and is tailored to the exact needs and wishes of the patient. Our aim is to provide you with high quality orthodontic treatment in a modern relaxed environment and we take a holistic approach working closely with your dentist and with our in-house hygienist to ensure your dental health is optimal during your orthodontic treatment.

There are an increasing number of alternatives to the traditional metal braces associated with orthodontics ranging from ceramic brackets, invisible wires and the invisalign system.

Whether a child or an adult, orthodontic treatment can provide excellent results and greatly improve facial appearance and self-esteem.

Implant Dentistry

This is the use of ‘artificial roots’ made from titanium that are placed in the jaws to replace teeth that are already missing. They can be used to retain a crown, bridge or a denture. Our consultant oral surgeon places the implants and the final restorations are provided by one of our dentists, all of whom have been trained in the ‘Straumann’ system. For further information about implants please ask any member of the team.

Oral Surgery

Our highly trained team can provide treatment from the simple removal of an already loosened tooth to the elimination of a cyst in the jaw or the placement of dental implants here at The Buckley Practice.

Referrals

Our practice accepts referrals from colleagues and in the rare situation where we cannot provide the care required we have an excellent network of specialist colleagues to whom we can and do refer.
