Dental implants are "artificial roots" made from titanium that are placed in the jaw to replace missing teeth. A crown, bridge or denture can be attached to these implants to restore a gappy smile, stabilise a loose denture or to make eating easier and more comfortable.

Implants have become the preferred method for tooth replacement in many situations simply because they have proved very successful in the long term and avoid preparation to adjacent teeth.

The concept is remarkably simple and in well planned cases, so is the treatment. There is a large amount of skill and knowledge to actually placing implants comfortably and safely.We are very fortunate to have Dr Louis Mcardle available to place our implants at The Bromley Implant Centre (@The Buckley Practice). Louis is a consultant oral surgeon at Guys hospital and was the first dentist in the UK to achieve an Msc in implantology. He has been placing implants for our patients for the past 15 years.

The careful planning of any implant case is essential to its successful outcome and the initial assessments are usually carried out by your dentist and dental technician. Together, they will be actually preparing and providing the final restoration (crown, denture or bridge). This creates a restorative led team approach which is the recognised gold standard for implant treatment.

The actual implant is subject to vast amounts of research and development by the high quality manufacturers that produce them. There are, of course, less well researched and precision made systems available (usually sold on price over quality) but we would not consider using them for both yours and our peace of mind!
