Fresh Breath
Bad breath affects a lot of people at some point and in nine out of ten cases, the problem originates in the mouth. Even in the cleanest mouth, there are good and bad bacteria, but if they rapidly multiply (by feeding off food matter or skin cells), then they can create bad-smelling gases which lead to your bad breath.
At The Buckley Practice, we use Retardex© range of products which contains an ingredient that helps to eliminate bad breath for at least eight hours and not just mask it. It works by killing bacteria that cause tooth decay and gum problems, fights plaque and gently whitens your teeth. It is recommended by dental professionals and is safe for everyday use. It is sugar, alcohol and fluoride free.
In order to keep your breath fresh, you should try the following:
- Brush your teeth at least twice a day with a non-foaming toothpaste.
- Clean between the teeth every day with floss.
- Gently cleanse the tongue with a tongue cleanser, 80% of bad breath comes from the surface of the tongue.
- Chew sugar-free gum in-between meals to increase the saliva flow.
- Avoid over-indulging in spicy foods, garlic and onion.
- Reduce the consumption of coffee, tea and alcohol, which dry the mouth.
- Use an alcohol-free rinse and oral spray.
- Gargle with an antibacterial oral rinse, to clean as far back down the throat as possible.
- Visit your Dentist and/or Hygienist regularly; bad breath can be an indicator that there is a problem with the gums, such as gingivitis or periodontitis.
- Drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep the mouth moist.
