Childrens DentistryWe offer both private and NHS dental care for children and young adults up to 18 years of age.
Dr Sarah Buckley is our experienced paediatric dentist and she believes in making your child's visit a fun one. Your child's wellbeing is paramount and maintaining a healthy smile for life our ultimate aim. Sarahs's gentle approach and caring attitude aims to encourage even the most reluctant child to become confident in the dental environment. We recognise that many people fear a visit to the dentist and this is usually due to a traumatic experience in childhood. It is so important that your child feels comfortable visiting the dentist and the earlier the better - we recommend a visit when the first teeth arrrive so that your child gets used to the surroundings and we can advise on healthy diets and good tooth cleaning techniques. As your child grows up we will continue to offer preventive advice and keep a check on their dental health and development. Hopefully we can set and keep them on the road to a disease free mouth for life. Many children suffer with poorly aligned or misplaced teeth and we can offer an appropriate referral to an 'orthodontic specialist' should this be the case. We have our own very experienced and highly regarded orthodontic team here at the practice ( the Bromley Orthodontic Clinic ) who can care for your child on a private basis. We can also refer them to an NHS orthodontic practice locally should you wish.
Dental trauma is always distressing and is more commonly seen in children than adults. The most common cause is damage from a sporting injury. We always recommend your child has a mouthguard for sports and we offer the very best - specially and individually made for your child in a range of thicknesses and colour schemes from the clear to the 'uber funky' to safeguard their smile. On the subject of prevention we can also offer your child 'fissure sealants'. These are a tough protective coating applied to the grooves in the biting surface of the teeth (usually the adult molars) as they erupt into the mouth (approx 6 years of age for first molars and 12 years of age for the second molars ). This is when the teeth are most vulnerable and as food can trap into these grooves and result in decay to these teeth. Treatment is painless and can be carried out by your child's dentist or by one of our hygienists here at The Buckley Practice. Sarah currently sees children on an NHS basis on Tuesdays with appointments for examinations at the beginning and the end of the day.If your child does require NHS treatment they will be seen during the pre and post lunch periods. Dr.Sean Buckley, Dr.Chris Shaw and Dr. Andrew Connolly welcome your children on a private basis for all their dental needs and are available throughout the week to suit you.Hygienist and therapist appointments are similarly available on a private only basis.
